Essaouira
Morocco
February, 2001
Essaouira is the best city in Morocco. I live on the roof of the Beau Rivage Hotel right in the center of town. Everynight we host the Sunset Club where we invite all the people we know and have met in town to come up and party and watch the sunset over the port. The room is only 10 bucks a night and our hotel is in the heart of the cafes that only charge 50 cents for a CafEe *u L*it. Our boat Rubyat is parked right in front of Chez Sam at the Port. We are currently fixing her up for some saling. Morocco is a fun and interesting place. There are lots of people out to cheat you, but if you keep your wits, and take your time there are many great deals to be had. Morocians will always start at least 3 times above the normal cost of anything so be ready to start really low. This does not apply to food - you pretty much pay what is asked.
I bought a Mountain bike for about 90 US - a chinese bike that has broken alot, but well worth the price. Lots of great rides. You can ride down the beach at low tide right past The Castle in the Sand that Jimi Hendrix wrote about. Jimi was here for a few weeks back in the sixtys. This town is full of Jimi Legend - every dude you meet on the street either met or jammed with him - it makes you wonder if it isn`t just a legend. But what about the song......
