40 Shades of Green
Dublin, Ireland
May, 2005

What a killer time in Ireland. A really beautiful country with very friendly people. It always helps if you know someone too.

My friend in Paris, Jonathan McNamara, father and brother live in Dublin and they offered to put me up while I was in Town. Jonathan gave me directions from the airport, so when I arrived everything was set.

I took the airport bus into the Bus arras main station and it was only a 10 minute walk from there. Before I arrive at the house, Oisin, Johnathan’s brother who I had met before in Paris, met me on his 10-Speed. He welcomed me and we walked the rest of the way to his house.

They have a cool little cottage with a big backyard minutes from the city center. Both John (the Father) and Oisin were really nice and we all got along great. We hung out, watched movies, funny Irish TV and had dinner together almost every night. I had my own room and was very comfortable. It was just what I needed after a month in Paris, a little rest and relaxation.

Dublin is a really fun city, there is an awesome bike ride around the Howth Penninsula that is really world class. See pictures in the Photo section. There are also tons of cool pubs and trip to Grafton Street on the weekend is a must.

It was hard to leave the comfort and friendship of the McNamara home, but I had to get out and see the west coast. Jonathan told me about Clifdon and Kilkee so I got a bus ticket and was on my way.

The west was the best. Old Ireland and really beautiful. The cliffs around Kilkee was my favorite place. Steep cliffs, caves and pounding surf.

Ireland is fun backpacking. June is a great time of year, before the summer crouds but warm enough for shorts.
