Cape Tribulation
Australia
November, 2000
Ah the tropics. This place was just a lush as the Top End! But there are just as many mosquitos. I stayed at PK's Jungle Village and it was great. Lots of young and cool backpackers that really love to party. They are always hiring cause people really come and go up there. The first day there I went snorkeling and it was incredible. Cape trib is the only place in Australia where the reef meets the rainforest (everywhere else you have to take a boat to the reef. On the reek I saw some giant fish but most incredible was a lobster that was about 5 feet long! I wanted to snag it but it was giant - I was too scared to touch it (10 inch claws!!). The second day I went on a great kayak trip. Every night I partied till late. I met a really cool couple there (Patrick & Sophia) who I partied with a lot. Also met some girls I would see for some time to come. Everyone is either traveling north or south on the East Coast so if you are going in the same direction as someone you will see them over and over during your trip (most people I met have been traveling for many months and have many months to go!
